Internet subculture

A subculture is a group of people within a culture who are different from it, but who have  something in common with one another, such as common interests, vocations or jobs, religions, ethnic backgrounds, or sexual orientations and so forth. So, a subculture can be defined as a Smaller groups within a culture that possess similar beliefs, values, norms, and patterns of behavior that differentiate them from the larger cultural mainstream.
It seems that there are  many online subcultures  as in “real” life.
What I mean by that is that real life subcultures have “migrated” to
the virtual world and have found a home.  Therefore, many people specially young have  found a home on the web and become their own sub-culture.

It is very interesting  how many organizations are used to refer to themselves as an internet  “community” or society.Nowadays there are many internet subcultures that have created their own beliefs and that share specifi behaviors and ideologies.
The first internet subcultures emerged via Usenet.
“The Usenet is the largest conferencing system and has a unique form of social organization… the Usenet has no central authority, no single source of power that can enforce boundaries and police behavior. Noone owns most Usenet newsgroups; most newsgroups are anarchic in the technical sense of the term – they have no central authority though they do have an order and structure. Almost anyone can read the contents of a Usenet newsgroup, create entirely new newsgroups, or contribute to one. This makes the Usenet a more interesting and challenging social space than systems that are ruled by central authorities.” (Kollock and Smith, 1998)

Usenet is the set of people who exchange articles.it consists of newsgroups listed in the periodic "List of Active Newsgroups" postings which appear regularly in news.Newsgroups are online threaded discussion groups in which people converse  to exchange ideas and information. Some newsgroups are "moderated"; in these newsgroups, the articles are first sent to a moderator for approval before appearing in the newsgroup.

In cyberspace nowadays there are many subcultures, social spaces and communities people have created.that, are increasing considerably due to the fast and global communication that the internet provides.Doubtless, they are  changing the relationship between information technology and society.
